Clutter in our homes can be one of the biggest culprits of stress. If you’re anything like me, you can’t concentrate on anything if you are overwhelmed by all of the stuff around you. Decluttering your home is one of the best things you can do to simplify your life and create a little more peace in your day. But as busy moms, finding the time to declutter can seem impossible. However, there are 5 strategies you can use to start chipping away at the clutter in your home even if you time isn’t on your side. Because even busy moms can find time to declutter!
I know what you’re thinking. I already have 500 things on my to-do list and I can’t get done what I need to now! How in the world am I supposed to add decluttering to my already overflowing list?!
But there is a method to my madness. I promise! You see, once you declutter your home the other tasks become so much easier. Cleaning your home is simpler because you have less to clean. Paying bills takes less time because everything is together and you aren’t sorting through massive stacks of papers. Staying on top of laundry is a breeze because less clothes means less laundry! You just have to fight through the tough parts to get to the other side!
Here are 5 strategies you can try to get your home decluttered and simplify your days.
1. 15 minutes a day
Try using your timer and dedicating 15 minutes each day toward decluttering your home. It’s amazing how much you can accomplish when you set your mind to something for 15 minutes without distractions!
2. Wake up 15 minutes earlier
Set your alarm 15 minutes earlier each morning and use that time to declutter.
3. Utilize nap time and bedtime
If your a mom with young kids, finding time to declutter your home can be extra tricky. It’s hard enough trying to juggle all of your responsibilities, but adding a huge and overwhelming project on top of your already too long to-do list seems impossible.
However, taking advantage of the time when your little ones are sleeping is the best way to get things done. Have you ever noticed how much more you can get done when you are working on your own without your kids underfoot? Making the best of the quiet, uninterrupted time you have is a great way to get things done fast!
4. Spend less time on social media
I think many of us can admit to spending a little too much time browsing our phones, myself included. However, what if you decided to spent on your phone decluttering your house instead? You could set your home screen or lock screen on your phone to a photo of the word DECLUTTER or HOUSE PURGE as a way to remind yourself every time you reached for your phone!
5. Delegate
Beginning the decluttering process with a reluctant spouse or family member can be hard. I highly recommend starting with your things first. This will likely encourage them to follow suit once they see how clean the space is and how less overwhelmed you are. However, I do recommend delegating tasks to others in your family so that you can make the time to declutter. Ask for help with dinner prep, regular weekly cleaning tasks, or child care. Then take advantage of that freed up time to declutter your home!
I hope you’ve found some strategies that you can implement into your home and routine to help you make the time to declutter. I promise that it’s so worth it in the end!
