You guys! I’ve missed you! I can’t believe I’ve been gone from this little blog of mine for 3 months! Honestly, I intended to take about 2 weeks off when my family went on vacation and then jump right back into posting and I totally fell off the bandwagon. You know when you get into a habit of doing something…say exercising, and you feel like you’re in the groove, but then take a few days off and it’s practically impossible to get yourself going again? Yep. That’s what happened to me. So be patient with me. It may take me a few weeks to get back into my groove, but I promise I’m going to do my best! 😉
So you may be wondering what in the world we have been up to in the past few months. Here’s the rundown…
-
The Boys
I feel like our summer was both slow and busy at the same time. We had many days that were full of swimming, baseball, walks to the park, and playing outside in our backyard. We traveled to see family often and ate way too much ice cream and snow cones. I’ve loved watching my boys grow and learn this summer. They sure have kept me busy!

Baseball
Caleb started T-ball this summer and I barely dipped my toes in the water of what I have ahead of me as my children grow older! I felt like every time I turned around I was running Caleb to a practice or preparing for one of his games. I know that many of you veteran mom’s out there are probably laughing at me as I talk about T-ball being time consuming so I know I could have it so much worse! But it was one of the many things that we devoted our time to this summer and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Watching my son play a game that he is very much growing to love was amazing. He actually loved it so much that we are gearing up for a season of fall ball for 6U starting this week!

Selling Our House
If you have been around here for a while, you may remember a post I wrote several months back about why we decided to stay in our smaller home. So you may be saying, “Kaitlin, whaaaat?!” But give me a chance to explain. We have a good reason!
We love our home and would be very happy staying here long term…if it were on a quieter street on a little more land. We live in a neighborhood, but it’s a main thorough fair to many other streets and while people are “supposed” to drive 25 mph down our road it doesn’t always happen. Most people are driving 45-50 mph. So you can imagine how nerve-racking it is for Caleb (5) to be riding his bike in our driveway.
After nearly 3 months of looking at houses, listing our house, and dealing with several showings on our house, we have almost decided to stay put where we are! I know. It seems silly and pointless to go through all of the stress for nothing, but we do have good reason. We are considering refinancing to a 15 year mortgage to hopefully pay our house off sooner since the rates are so low. We do love our home. It’s the perfect size for us and we have done a ton of work to it to make it our own. I’m exhausted just thinking of trying to start over on a different house!

The Dreaded Shift Change
Right before we went on vacation my husband switched shifts. If you have a spouse who works shift work, then you can probably relate to how this can cause a transition in how a day flows. I went from having tons of time to myself 4 nights a week for about 3-4 hours to having about 2 hours to myself only 1 evening each week. As you can imagine, this put a major damper into my blogging time! Now that we are almost through the summer months, we are about to change shifts again! (But this time it’s days…YAY!)

Deciding to Homeschool
After much thought, prayer, and consideration, we made the decision to homeschool Caleb for Kindergarten this year. We made the decision in mid-June and started in early August so I was a little frantic in trying to pick curriculum, find a co-op, and prepare for our year. So far we are loving it and I’m so glad we made this decision. It’s not for everyone and I can see that now more than ever, but it’s a great fit for our family in this season of our lives. We plan to take it year to year and just re-evaluate each spring/summer.
So what’s coming up here at The Mom on Purpose?

Kon Mari
I’m working my way through the book, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up and let me tell you…it really is life changing. I read the book for the first time when I was about 8 months pregnant with Ben. I started the process and go rid of quite a bit, but since rereading the book, we have realized there is so much more in our home that we just don’t love. I will most definitely be posting about it in the near future because it is really changing our lives for the better!

Very Budget-Friendly Decorating
This has been a requested post so I will try to hit on this one soon! Let’s just say that I love decor and trying to make a cute and cozy home, but for most of our marriage we have been on a seriously tight budget so I’ve got a few tricks of the trade up my sleeve so stay tuned. 🙂

Tips for Living on One-Income
This is also a requested post and I thought it would be a fun way to get a conversation started in the comments on how we all do things to save money and make living on one income work in a way that we are thriving, not just surviving!

Homemaking/Cleaning/Decluttering/Organizing
Of course I will continue to do many of my normal posts around the topics of homemaking, cleaning, decluttering, and organizing. Things may change just a bit due to so much more stuff leaving our house so I’m sure I will need to update some old posts.
So now you tell me. What do you want to see here at The Mom on Purpose? Let me know by leaving a comment below or shooting me an email at kaitlin@themomonpurpose.com. It would be so helpful for me and I would be forever grateful. I love talking and interacting with you guys and finding new ways I can serve you as my readers!
I hope you have had a wonderful and blessed summer as well and I look forward to what God is going to do here at The Mom on Purpose this fall. It’s my favorite season after all! 😉
