5 Things I Do Every Day Even When Life Happens

We all want a clean house, but somedays its hard just to keep our head above the water. Let’s face it, life happens. Our kids get sick. We get sick. We have super busy days. We aren’t home. We have other commitments.

When life happens, it seems like our homes can get away from us if we aren’t careful. However, I’ve found that if I can get at least the following 5 things done each day, I can keep my house from completely falling apart.

Make the Bed

I don’t know what it is about a made bed that just makes the entire house stay cleaner. Make your bed as soon as you get up for best results. It will instantly make your room feel cleaner and will give you a boost of productivity every time you walk in your room!

1 Load of Laundry

If you are feeling like your laundry is piling up, I challenge you to just throw in a load. Don’t worry about sorting too much. Throw towels in a pile, clothes in a pile, and sheets/blankets in a pile. It’s not going to ruin your clothes if you don’t sort. I promise. I never sort. I’m lazy productive like that! 😉

If you can just get one load of laundry done each day, it will help to dwindle that pile down slowly and keep it from growing. Just throw it in first thing in the morning, try to dry it sometime around lunch and put it away before you go to bed. It won’t take as long as you think and will make you feel so much better when it’s finished.

Unload the Dishwasher

Try to get this done within the first hour or two after you wake up. If you do it first thing in the morning, you will have a place to put all of your dirty dishes throughout the day. This will keep you from the dreaded dish pile in your sink or on your countertop!

Nightly Quick Pick-up

Set the timer for 5, 10, 15, or 20 minutes (however much time you have) and move around your home putting things back where they belong at the end of the day. Make a game of it and get the entire family involved. See how quickly you can finish! Even if all you have is 5 minutes, you will most definitely make a dent in the mis-placed clutter in you home!

Make a Short To Do List

At the end of the night, make a short, manageable to-do list for the next day. Try not to give yourself more than 5 to-dos beyond your normal every day tasks. This will help you stay focused on the tasks that need to be done as well as give you a sense of accomplishment once your day is over!

If life happens and I just simply don’t have the time to get much done, I can always revert back to this simple to-do list to keep my house from falling apart. I can complete all of these tasks in 30 minutes or less.

What do you try to get done every day?

These are definitely the basics I get done daily! Unfortunately I don’t get past these basics often! lol 🙂 With two kids it’s crucial to stay on top of the laundry daily! 🙂
